Synchroniser Rings

The Synchroniser Ring synchronizes drive gears and shafts in manual gearboxes, to ensure that equal evolutional speed between the shaft and the gear is reached while shifting. The male clutch member is on the gear and female on the dog clutch hub, which has a splined outer sleeve. Movement of selector moves the whole dog clutch until the cones make contact, when the friction brings them both to the same speed. Continued movement of the selector causes the internal splines of the outer sleeve to engage with the dog teeth and the gear.
